Michael’s path into fitness community work started during his time at the University of Hong Kong, where he studied Sports Science while working part-time at a local sports center. That’s where the spark happened — watching people find confidence and community through movement.
After graduating in 2012, he spent five years as a group fitness instructor at major Hong Kong gyms. But something felt off. He realized that fitness shouldn’t be locked behind expensive memberships and treadmills. Some of Hong Kong’s best workouts happen on its hiking trails and in its parks.
So in 2015, he started organizing hiking fitness groups. What began as a small group meeting weekly at Victoria Park grew into multiple sessions across Kowloon Peak and the New Territories. Today, he’s leading over 300+ group outdoor sessions annually, engaging more than 5,000 participants from all fitness levels.
His work has been featured in local wellness publications and he’s collaborated with the Hong Kong Tourism Board and district sports associations. But the real measure of success? People who say they never thought they’d enjoy hiking until they tried his sessions.
